Fishing Under The Marcelo Fernan Bridge, Mactan City Side

Fishing under bridges has become quite popular especially if the currents are at your advantage. Fishing under the Marcelo Fernan Bridge, or "new bridge" as locals call it, on the Mactan City side is quite enjoyable. You just need a little bit of patience and a good, strong line. The fish are varied. This is what you get for fishing in free waters. If you want to know the local fish to be caught around the area, just ask the local fishermen or even the settlers near the bridge as to the types of fish that are present near the area.

There are a variety of fish around the bridge. There are eel, parrotfish, stone fish like the Lapu-lapu and lots more. There is no entrance fee and there is even a park where you can just relax. There are also a few parking spaces available right before the park itself. The best times to go fishing there are early in the morning and during the afternoon when the sun is about to set.

Co Jordan Talaba Farm Li-loan Cebu

The Co Jordan Talaba farm, aside from Talaba, also has Tilapia and Bangus. Regarding the accessibility, it is quite difficult to locate. There is also a point where the cement road ends and left only with dirt. Also, expect a lot of noise. There are a lot of Karaoke machines so if you're looking for a peaceful Fishing trip, bring headphones or something. The Bangus here are well-sized last time i was there and the Talaba are abundant as well. So, if you are not into noisy atmospheres, I suggest you take a cottage far away from the Karaoke machines as there are a lot of spots that are away from them.

They are at Lilo-an, Cebu City, Philippines
The Bangus are @ P160.00 per kilo. The Talaba may vary in price.

Wetland Resort

The Wetland Resort. Complete with pool, restaurant and pond. This resort's facilities are exceptional except the fishing experience. Fishing in Wetland's pond does not quite capture the essence if leisure time Fishing. Aside from the bait, which are cultured worms, the Fishing experience is way off. The pond is way too deep thus giving bigger fish a lot of area to evade shorter fishing lines. Additionally, the Karaoke machines are near the waters. This might result to Fish being scared away from the huts. The location of the resort itself is quite hard to reach. Overall, if you want a relaxing day and just go Fishing, this is not your ideal place. But if you want some pool splashing fun, boat riding and food trips, this is the place to be.

Contact no. (32)261-9921

Opens around 7:30am - 9:00pm

Located in Tabunol Road, Pardo, Cebu. When you approach near Cabreros, Basak, just ask the people on the street about the location.

Entrance is at P50.00 per person (Boat ride inclusive)

Fishing Rod is at P20.00

Bait is at P20.00/cup (Bait is live worms)

Fish:

Tilapia - The Tilapia here are very varied in size because the fingerlings are mixed with adult Fish. Small fry tend to be the ones most likely caught because they crowd in shallower parts, where huts are, and the bigger ones linger at the bottom of the pond, thus making them harder to catch. The Tilapia is at P180.00/kilo.

Catfish - These Fish are most likely found on the bottom of the pond, swimming with the other Fish. Catching one is more into luck than skill. The Fish is at P300.00/kilo.

They have small mouths so better use small hooks pref. size 14 and 4lbs-6lbs line. Retrieving the Fish is relatively easy because they have smooth scales and will not cut or injure you. The price is P196 per kilo and could be cooked for you.

Tilapia - These Fish are not for Fishing, although Tilapia are quite nice to fish because they are a bit challenging when reeling them in compared to the Bangus and also a bit easier to hook. You could order some for eating, though. The price is at P170 per kilo.

Unknown Fish - there is also one other type of fish swimming around the pond with a floating cottage. They are small in size and tend to stay in deep waters. They look like from the Siganus vermiculatus family or Danggit. They have long spines that crown the head and could injure you if not careful. The reason for this.

Sport Fishing or Angling has not been a very popular past-time with the average Filipino, that is why I am promoting Fishing spots and the sport itself to encourage others to try it out. With a country surrounded by water and a huge variety of Fish, Fishing is very ideal for spending leisure time with friends and loved ones or if you want more a more challenging experience, you could go for the big ones such as Sailfish or even Sharks!
